Resources for Your Nursing Career
Mike A. Myers and the Mike A. Myers Foundation have invested gifts and ongoing pledges to the JHG Texas Fund for Nursing Scholarships totaling $450,000 since 2020. Thank you, Mike A. Myers for your generous investment to help student nurses earn a BSN!
JHG Texas adds intrinsic value to JHG Texas Nursing Scholarships by offering free tutoring to student nurses both virtually and in person at the Myers-JHG Tutoring and Academic Support Center at TWU College of Nursing (Dallas Campus).
The Myers-JHG Tutoring Center also provides practicum experience to the tutors, typically post-graduate students who are studying to become nurse educators. Through the last Academic Year, 1:1 academic tutoring has benefited hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students across 69 course sections. Tutoring is especially helpful to student nurses from underserved secondary schools to acquire critical thinking skills and improved academic results.
The Myers-JHG Center was developed by the highly ranked Texas Woman’s University College of Nursing in Dallas in partnership with JHG Texas. A fully dedicated staff coordinator and 13 accomplished tutors serve student nurses at the Center. Tutoring is offered free of charge to student nurses at TWU and the tutors benefit from earned fee income for their services rendered. Such fees are paid out of funds arranged in part by JHG Texas and sponsored by the Mike A. Myers Foundation. Our Resources download provides JHG Texas Nursing Scholars a comprehensive list of professional nursing organizations, information to pursue credentialing and accreditation as a Registered Nurse. Links are also provided for preparation for initial licensure as Registered Nurses and where to upload resumes and find current job opportunities.
Also provided in the Resources download are links to resources to help write a resumé. A resumé is one of the essential tools needed to land an interview. It must be an easy-to-read and well-structured presentation which is targeted toward the nursing position for which the Nursing Scholar is applying. The links provide an important resource for the JHG Texas Nursing Scholar to learn how to develop interviewing skills, and to pursue networking and job search. As a JHG Texas Nursing Scholar, interviews are your opportunity to sell yourself to a potential employer and convince them that you are the best person for the job. Preparation is key to a successful interview! Practice interviewing skills and answering common behavioral interview questions and research the prospective hospital or clinic as much as possible.
